Laird Hamilton's Force of Nature

i just read laird hamilton's force of nature.
foods laird doesn't eat:
- Bread
- Pizza
- Soda
- Cheese
i couldn't be a bigger proponent of the non dairy lifestyle. i happen to be lactose intolerant. actually, everyone is lactose intolerant, just to varying degrees. we are the only species that drinks another species milk. for some dairy works. i would say most people could reap some benefits from limiting their intake of pasteurized dairy products.
try this: don't eat dairy for one week and see how you feel. for me it was an earth moving discovery. dairy and the inflammation caused by it was completely connected to my allergies and my asthma. once i gave it up my allergies and my asthma improved greatly. now when i cheat i actually start to wheeze... and yes i cheat on occasion. although if i have a race coming up i'm adamant about not eating dairy for at least that entire week prior. it has paid huge dividends for me... try it and let me know what you think. actually don't bother commenting to the blog with your own pro-dairy comments until you have actually taken a week off and have some perspective.

I would die if I didn't eat pizza! Protein, calcium, and plenty of calories in a portable, easily eaten snack. Can't beat it! I had two slice for lunch today!
Ps. This is a pro-pizza, not a pro-dairy comment! ;-)
Oh, and who would eat all the butter if not me?!
Matt, I couldn't agree with you more about the dairy part. I have been dairy free for awhile, but every once in a long while, I may get a shake or something with the kids and within a couple of hours I start to feel inflammation in my feet that I just had gotten over after having plantar fascitis for several months. My 9 year old daughter will start to get stuffy and have a runny nose after having dairy again. It does make a huge difference in your immune system.

MPH- I know a guy named "boogie" who says he is a pizzaterian. who wins in a fight Laird or Boogie?
trail goat - you would not die.. try it for one week and write a blog on how it goes.
tomdog - i suspect many people could feel a lot better without it.
rvg - in my experience pizzaterians are flabby, gassy and can't take a punch. i have to say laird wins that fight. i mean LOOK at those abs!
Hart,
I might just take your challenge; although I seriously have no idea from what source I'll make up my pizza-based protein intake.
Next you'll suggest that I get six hours of sleep a night! ;-)
Laird is my hero and idle so whatever Laird says is the bible :) Gotta give him credit with the RAW, raw is the way to go!!!!
I gave up dairy over a year ago. It started with a two week trial. I ate "whey" too much cheese and diary products and just tried it based on a book I had been reading. I felt so much better almost immediately that it has never occurred to me to go back. BTW, you can still have pizza, just without cheese -- it's fabulous with a variety of mushrooms, onions, peppers and a great sauce. If the ingredients are good you won't even miss that greasy clumpy junk on top. I sleep better, my mood is better, my skin is better and my cravings for more dairy were gone. I'm convinced all those growth hormones were making me ill. I feel so much better being 100% dairy free.
I don't eat dairy actually. I can't drink milk as I am one of those lactose-intolerant and I don't like the tatse, nor do I crave any of the other products. Cheeses (European that is) I do like, but they carry so many empty calories, I had to give it up for this reason. Don't buy - don't eat. I will steal a slice if I am at the party though:) but parties are so rare for me, it's close to non-existent. That said, I have nothing to compare to, besides some 15 years ago, but at that time I was also far from fitness:)
Pasteurized foods, including dairy, are definitely stripped of their nutrients. So what about raw milk? Laird talks about raw being the way to go...I wonder if he's tried raw milk, or other raw dairy products. Since they're raw, by Laird's definition, they're obviously not stripped of their nutrients. This is good. Can't say I have, nor really have a desire to, try raw dairy, but something to think about here.
Goat, I'll take care of the butter! And 6 hours of sleep is waaaaay over-promoted.
Cats would drink cows milk too, it's just that they have trouble working the udder with their little paws :)
Why no bread? I mean, I can see why no white bread, but a good whole grain type of bread?
And is pasta covered in that bread comment?
Matt-what do u put in your coffee?
i drink my coffee black.. the way god intended.
matt - not sure i can go the black coffee route...
Keeping an eye on Dairy and Gluten intake is like putting on a new bumper sticker; +10 horsepower at half the expense.
I took the two out of my diet before my longer events last year and felt super clean and refreshed.
